DRAM Prices to Go Up a Lot in Q3 2025, TrendForce Says
TrendForce's new data tells us that DRAM prices will jump high in the third quarter of 2025, with some types of memory set to rise by up to 45%. The big rise comes as makers move their work, stop making old products, and as more need comes from AI servers and tech stuff we use in some seasons.
Forecast Split New vs. Old Memory
The change in prices will be big between new and old memory tech.
New Memory (DDR5, LPDDR5X, GDDR7)
Prices for these new types are set to grow some:
- DDR5 (PC & Server) 3% to 8% up.
- LPDDR5X (Mobile) 5% to 10% up, as folks stock up for seasons.
- GDDR7 (Next-Gen GPU) 0% to 5% up, as makers make more and move from GDDR6.
Old Memory (DDR4, LPDDR4X, GDDR6)
On the other hand, old memory types will see big price jumps as big makers shut down old lines and make less:
- DDR4 (PC) 38% to 43% up.
- DDR4 (Server) 28% to 33% up.
- LPDDR4X (Mobile) 23% to 28% up.
- GDDR6 (Current GPUs) 28% to 33% up, making supply tight as focus shifts to GDDR7.
The big jump in GDDR6 prices is key, as it's in many budget-friendly graphics cards from AMD, Intel, and Nvidia, like AMD's Radeon RX 9060/9070 series. How this will change the end prices of these GPUs remains to be seen.
High-Speed Memory (HBM) Prices Race Up
Need from AI boosters is also pushing up the cost of High-Speed Memory (HBM), with prices set to go up by 15% to 20% in Q3 2025. This is a big jump from the 5% to 10% growth before, likely because of the start of producing more like Nvidia's B300-series AI GPUs, which use a lot of HBM3E memory.
The Effect of U.S. Tariffs
It's key to note that TrendForce's data doesn't cover coming big political changes. The United States will start charging 25% import taxes on memory products from Japan and South Korea from August 1st. This will surely push the prices of all consumer and server memory types up more, adding to the jumps TrendForce expects to see.
