Intel Core Ultra 5 245HX Test Shows Big Jump in Speed
The first public test scores for Intel's new Core Ultra 5 245HX mobile processor are out, showing a big jump in speed from the last model. The scores show a clear win for Intel's mobile Arrow Lake-HX series over its desk Arrow Lake-S line.
PassMark Test Scores
In a fresh PassMark test, the Core Ultra 5 245HX got a score of 4,530 for one thread and 40,059 for many threads. This is a key win, seen well when put next to the old Core i5 14500HX.
- One-Thread Speed: The Core Ultra 5 245HX is 26% faster than the Core i5 14500HX.
- Many-Thread Speed: The Core Ultra 5 245HX is 38% faster than the Core i5 14500HX.
This big win in many-thread speed matters even more because the Core i5 14500HX has six more threads than the new Core Ultra 5 245HX.
Comparison with Desk Arrow Lake CPUs
The speed jump seen in the mobile 245HX is much more than in the desk Arrow Lake-S CPUs. For grip, the desk Core Ultra 5 245K only had up to 12% gain in one-thread and 10% in many-thread speed over its old model, the Core i5 14600K, in the same PassMark tests. This marks a big gap in the new gains between Intel's mobile and desk lines.
Key Things to Note
Even though these first CPU test scores look good, it's key to note that we don't yet know how the processor will do in games. The desk Core Ultra 200S line, with strong many-thread scores, did not always beat the last 14th-gen CPUs in game tests.
With few Arrow Lake-HX laptops out since this year’s start, test data has been hard to get. More scores should come as these processors are sold more, which will help us see what they can do.
