Micron Shows New Data Center SSDs, First PCIe Gen 6 Drive

The company, Micron, has shared a new list of data center SSDs made with its G9 NAND tech. This list has three new drives made for top speed, big size, and low wait time in server setups, including the first-ever PCIe 6.0 SSD.

Micron 9650: The First PCIe Gen 6 SSD

The main thing here is the Micron 9650, the very first PCIe 6.0 SSD for data centers. It makes a new top mark for storing well.

  • Fast Speeds: Read at 28 GB/s and write at 14 GB/s.
  • Fast Work: Read at 5.5 million IOPS, write at 900,000 IOPS.
  • Saves Power: Gives up to 25% better power use in writing fast and 67% more in reading fast than old ways.

Micron 6600 ION: Big Storage at 122 TB

The Micron 6600 ION is a business SSD that brings a huge storage size. It uses the E3.S setup to give up to 122 TB on one drive, matching the E3.L SSDs. This size lets it hold up to 2.4 Petabytes in a 1U server or 4.42 Petabytes in a 2U server. Micron also says the 6600 ION saves 37% more power than the same HDD setup.

Micron 7600: Very Low Wait Time for Gen 5 Units

The third drive, the Micron 7600, suits PCIe Gen 5.0 and is made for very low wait times. It gets under a 1ms answer time, the best for Gen 5.0 data center SSDs. Good for AI work and mixed jobs. The 7600 comes in many shapes like E3.S, U.2, and E1.S.

"With the first PCIe Gen6 SSD, top sizes and the lowest wait time SSD all made with our new G9 NAND Micron is not just in the lead; we are making new grounds in data center changes."

- Jeremy Werner, SVP and GM, Micron's Main Data Center Unit

When You Can Get Them

The Micron 9650 (Gen 6) and 7600 (Gen 5) SSDs are already going out to users. The 122 TB 6600 ION SSD will start going out in the third part of this year in both E3.S and U.2 forms. A future 245 TB 6600 ION will show up in 2026.
