NVIDIA RTX 5050 vs. AMD Built-In Laptop Graphics

A new test from the Hardware Canucks YouTube show put NVIDIA's basic GeForce RTX 5050 mobile graphics card against AMD's new built-in GPUs (iGPUs). They used different setups of the Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 laptop for this.

Game Speed Test

The results show that stand-alone graphics are still much faster than built-in ones. On average, AMD's best Radeon 890M iGPU was two times slower than the RTX 5050. All games were played at 1200p and on low-to-medium detail.

Cyberpunk 2077

  • RTX 5050 8GB: 103.8 fps (average)
  • RTX 3050 6GB: 87.9 fps (average)
  • Radeon 890M - IGP: 67.1 fps (average)
  • Radeon 880M - IGP: 60.1 fps (average)
  • Radeon 860M - IGP: 53.1 fps (average)

Baldur's Gate 3

  • RTX 5050 8GB: 112.5 fps (average)
  • RTX 3050 6GB: 87.1 fps (average)
  • Radeon 890M - IGP: 53.1 fps (average)
  • Radeon 880M - IGP: 50.8 fps (average)
  • Radeon 860M - IGP: 44.8 fps (average)

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

  • RTX 5050 8GB: 114.6 fps (average)
  • RTX 3050 6GB: 89.1 fps (average)
  • Radeon 890M - IGP: 60.4 fps (average)
  • Radeon 880M - IGP: 56.9 fps (average)
  • Radeon 860M - IGP: 47.4 fps (average)

Rainbow 6: Siege X

  • RTX 5050 8GB: 316.6 fps (average)
  • RTX 3050 6GB: 217.5 fps (average)
  • Radeon 890M - IGP: 162.9 fps (average)
  • Radeon 880M - IGP: 152.1 fps (average)
  • Radeon 860M - IGP: 130.5 fps (average)

Counter Strike 2

  • RTX 5050 8GB: 258.8 fps (average)
  • RTX 3050 6GB: 195.8 fps (average)
  • Radeon 880M - IGP: 158.4 fps (average)
  • Radeon 890M - IGP: 150.3 fps (average)
  • Radeon 860M - IGP: 145.1 fps (average)

DOTA 2

  • RTX 5050 8GB: 234.2 fps (average)
  • Radeon 890M - IGP: 210.8 fps (average)
  • Radeon 880M - IGP: 207.1 fps (average)
  • RTX 3050 6GB: 195.2 fps (average)
  • Radeon 860M - IGP: 187.1 fps (average)

Long-Running Battery Test

Laptops with only built-in graphics did better at lasting longer. They tested how long the battery lasts with normal use and heavy use.

Normal Use Test (Web Use)

  • Radeon 860M iGPU Model: 20 hours, 37 minutes
  • RTX 5050 Model: 18 hours, 19 minutes

Heavy Gaming Test

  • Radeon 860M iGPU Model: 3 hours
  • RTX 5050 Model: 2 hours, 40 minutes

Wrap-Up

This check shows that though new built-in graphics can play today's games, they are still way slower than the cheapest stand-alone graphics cards now. What you pick depends on if you want the best game speeds or longer battery life.
