Digital Foundry Pits PS5 Pro Against Mid-Level PC GPUs
Digital Foundry finds the new PlayStation 5 Pro console can match modern mid-level PC graphics cards in gaming. They tested the PS5 Pro's chip against the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB.
Chart shows how the PS5 Pro and PC GPUs perform in Alan Wake 2.
Testing Steps and Main Results
Experts ran tests in games like Black Myth Wukong, Forza Horizon 5, and Alan Wake 2. They made sure the tests were fair by using the same graphics settings on PCs as on the console, like 4K and 60fps with upscaling.
The tests show the console's power is close to the PC cards, but the PC cards are a bit faster on the whole. A key point was in Alan Wake 2, where the PS5 Pro kept a steady 30 fps in high-quality mode with ray tracing on. Yet, Digital Foundry noted the ray tracing effects were not as good on the console as on the PC.
The PC Graphics Card View
For PC gamers, this test shows different values for the PC cards:
- AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB Gives great power for its price of $350.
- Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB It's faster and has more features, like running Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing. But, it costs more.
Thoughts on Nvidia GPU Prices
Digital Foundry also talked about Nvidia's prices. They said the 8GB RTX 5060 Ti does poorly in hard games. They think the GeForce RTX 5070 12GB might be a better deal in its price range than the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB. For the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB to be worth it, its price should ideally be below $400.
