RoboCop Rogue City Unfinished Business Review
2023 saw a great shooter from Teyon, and now they are back with a new add-on. Does Unfinished Business add to what came before, or is it just the same stuff. Let's serve, protect, and uphold the law.
Back on Duty in Omni Tower
Unfinished Business isn't a new full game, but rather an added single part in the style of old PC game add-ons. This part is a 10-hour story set inside the huge Omni Tower instead of Old Detroit. A new group has taken over this big tower, and it’s up to RoboCop to go up each floor and bring back order.
The plot moves fast, with a strong drive for revenge. It has good parts, like a cool mystery guide and tough bad guy Casius Graves, once a cop in Detroit. But Peter Weller's return as RoboCop steals the show. His dry, machine-like voice fits just right, making the game feel real and even funny. Sadly, this makes the poor voice work and plain looks of other characters stand out more.
Gameplay Great Battles with Some Old Moves
If you liked the fighting in Rogue City, you'll find this familiar. The tough, fun shooting is back. RoboCop still feels strong, blocking bullets and making foes blow up. The famous Auto-9 gun, with endless ammo and better parts, is still your main tool, making most other guns seem weak.
There are a few new things and enemies. The Cryo Cannon is great, turning foes into ice that breaks apart. A new machine gun also adds some wild fun. New fight moves that use the surroundings like smashing a bad guy's face into a box or down a trash shoot make fights even more intense. There are some new enemies too, like flying drones and strange robot ninjas from RoboCop 3.
However, apart from these, the game hasn't changed much. The skills you can learn are the same as before, and the main loop of "fight, solve something easy, and do it again" can get old. It's harder than before, but mostly because they just throw more tough enemies at you all at once, instead of making the fights themselves more deep.
Mixing Things Up Old Times and Fun Surprises
To give a break from the fights, Unfinished Business has some parts where you aren't RoboCop. One flashback lets you be human Alex Murphy, but fighting feels less strong without his armor. Another makes you play a normal person, which really slows things down with boring tasks.
But a fun part at the end lets you control an ED-209. Blasting foes with two big guns and rockets is a blast and feels just as cool as it sounds.
Tech Issues Is It "Not Done" Yet
The game's name is a bit of a joke sometimes. On many gaming systems, like the PlayStation 5, you can see some tech problems. There are drops in how smooth the game runs, odd pauses (mostly when showing short movie scenes or during fights), wild moving bodies, bad speaking match-ups, and even some system crashes. These aren't bad enough to stop play, but they can make it less fun.
Good Parts
- The fighting is hard and more fun than ever.
- Peter Weller's acting with his voice is top-notch.
- You can play as ED-209 which fans will love.
- New tools like the Cryo Cannon are cool to use.
- Great price for a long, 10-hour game.
Bad Parts
- The main game, skills, and new upgrades are too much like the first game.
- You can see tech issues, bugs, and play issues.
- Weak other voices and characters.
- Old missions slow the game down a lot.
- Can get boring with the same places and missions.
Rating
8,5 / 10
A great, fun game that knows who it is, even if it's a bit rough.
Final Thoughts
RoboCop Rogue City - Unfinished Business feels like a classic add-on. It doesn't change much, but gives more of what fans loved from the first game. It's full of action, fun, and keeps true to its roots. Even with some tech troubles and a sense of the same old, being RoboCop and the good price make this a solid pick for fans of the first game and anyone who likes easy, fun shooting games.
