Samsung Pushes Back 1.4-Nanometer Chip Start to 2029

Samsung has now changed its chip-making plans, moving its 1.4-nanometer chip start date back by two years. A report from ETNews, using the new plans from Samsung, says they now aim to start big production of the 1.4nm chips in 2029.

Why the New Date?

The change comes from recent business problems. Samsung has lost a few big customers, causing costs and day-to-day spending to go up. So, they choose to focus on making their current 2nm line better and getting new customers before moving on to the next level of chip tech.

Race with TSMC

This delay puts Samsung on a different path from its main rival, TSMC. TSMC, from Taiwan, is doing well with its 2nm chips, ready to start big production soon.

TSMC plans to:

  • Work on 1.6nm tech by 2026.
  • Start its 1.4nm tech in 2028, a year before Samsung plans to.

This shows Samsung is aiming to make sure its current tech and customer base are strong, while TSMC is pushing fast into new chip making.
