report AMD is preparing a 16 GB VRAM version of Radeon RX 9070 GRE.
As per reports filter through Chinese Board Channels, AMD might go ahead and introduce an upgraded Radeon RX 9070 GRE graphics card. The new model should supposedly increase video memory to 16 GB, from the former 12 GB, in order to satisfy the increased market demand.
Key Changes in the Upgraded RX 9070 GRE
The main focus of change reported is memory configuration in terms of VRAM. Upgrading VRAM will also mean an upgrade of the memory bus. Now, technical changes that are expected are as follows:
- VRAM Increasing from 12 GB to 16 GB.
- Memory Bus From a 192-bit wider to a 256-bit.
- Other Specifications No mention in the report whether other specifications, like core configuration and power ratings, will also be changed.
Possible Launch Timeline and Market Targeting
The launch of the upgraded graphics card is expected to take place between September and October this year, that is late Q3 or early Q4. The report suggests that this time, as the original one, the biggest focus of this product would be the Chinese market. We currently do not know whether or not the original price of 4199 RMB on the card will still be applied to the new edition.
Context of the Current 12 GB RX 9070 GRE
The current 12 GB AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE definitely has 48 compute units (3072 cores) and a power rating of 220W. It has been proved in several reviews to perform neck and neck with NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5070 in games. The high value-for-money offered by AMD's RDNA 4 GPUs has made them much sought after, especially in the Asian markets.
This possible new SKU underlines the modular approach of AMD's RDNA 4 architecture, which has allowed the company to introduce different configurations to press on with transition to its RDNA 5 portfolio next year.
