The iPadBook A Modder Makes the Apple Mix We've All Wanted

A tech fan from China, Shu Chang, has made a dream device for many Apple fans a mix of an iPad and a MacBook. He calls it the "iPadBook," and it's a clever mix of iPadOS and macOS in one smooth piece where the screen picks the system.

How the iPadBook Works

The clever part of the build is how it mixes Apple parts with ones Shu made:

The Base It starts with a changed MacBook Air that has an M1 chip but no main screen.

The Link Instead of a usual screen joint, Shu made a new "MagBaka" hinge with 3D printing. It has 12 strong magnets that hold an iPad Pro tight.

Laptop Mode When the iPad Pro sticks on with magnets, it turns into the main screen of the MacBook, using macOS. Key thing it still works with touch and the Apple Pencil.

Tablet Mode If you take it off, the tablet shifts back to being a normal iPad Pro with iPadOS, all set for solo use.

Cool Build and Look

Even though the iPad Pro is a bit thinner than the MacBook Air’s body, the build of the iPadBook is top-notch. The end look is so good and well made that it could be seen as a real Apple product, showing great skill and care to detail.

What The Project Shows

More than just a neat toy, Shu Chang’s iPadBook shows it’s truly doable to deeply mix Apple’s tablet and desktop worlds with style and use. This one build makes it clear that users want more versatile and together hardware. It makes one ask what a similar device, with Apple’s own touch, could really do.
