Mario Kart World Remains Number-One Selling Game in Japan for July 2025

According to new sales data reported by Famitsu, the video game industry in Japan has had the highest sales in July 2025. Notwithstanding the launch of a month's major new release, Donkey Kong Bananza, the number one position was retained by Mario Kart World for a second consecutive month.

The pairing of monthly sales with total sales for the full list of retail games sold is as follows:

Publisher Market Shares

Nintendo ranked as the most successful publisher by a wide margin, moving 796,000 retail units in July. Closest behind was Bandai Namco with 106,000 units; Sony secured third with 28,000.

Hardware Sales Performance

On hardware, the best-selling console was Nintendo Switch 2 with 426,808 units sold. Compared to nearly 1.2 million sold during the June launch month, the sales dropped due to post-launch sell-off normalization and supply constraints in Japan. The original Nintendo Switch model placed second, selling 57,532 units for that period.
