Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection Unveiled with 11 Remakes

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Digital Eclipse, and Atari have officially announced the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection during the Gamescom 2025 Xbox showcase. This collection is a remaster of 11 classic games from the franchise's early years, stretching from 1992 to 2003.

Total Games Included in Listing

Unlike previous compilations, this one has been bundled together with several versions of the franchise's most revered games to ensure an authentic retroness on modern hardware. The complete list includes:

  • Mortal Kombat (1992): Arcade, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy, and Game Gear editions.
  • Mortal Kombat II (1993): All arcade, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, and 32X editions.
  • Mortal Kombat 3 (1995): Arcade, SNES, and Genesis versions.
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (1995): Arcade, SNES, and rare WaveNet Arcade editions.
  • Mortal Kombat Trilogy (1996): PlayStation 1 version.
  • Mortal Kombat 4 (1997): Arcade version.
  • Mortal Kombat Mythologies Sub-Zero (1997): PlayStation 1 version.
  • Mortal Kombat Special Forces (2000): PlayStation 1 version.
  • Mortal Kombat Advance (2001): Game Boy Advance version.
  • Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance (2002): Game Boy Advance version.
  • Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition (2003): Game Boy Advance version.

Major Inclusions and Major Omissions

The inclusion of the PlayStation 1 spinoffs, Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and Mortal Kombat Special Forces, was quite unexpected for the fan base, having been out of print for over two decades. However, the collection does not include N64 ports or fan favorites like Mortal Kombat Gold and Shaolin Monks.

Modern Amenities and Improvements

More than a port, the Kollection also comes with a great deal of new features that will really enhance the experience:

  • Gameplay Assists: A rewind feature, on-screen move lists, and a Fatality Trainer are included.
  • Practice Mode: Full Training mode allows players to practice combos.
  • Online Play: The Kollection features online multiplayer with rollback netcode for a smooth, lag-free experience.
  • Unlockables: Secret character unlocks and hidden developer menus for games to be imported into your session.

Bonus Content An Interactive Documentary

The package will also come with an interactive documentary on the history of the series. This feature includes exclusive interviews with original developers like John Tobias, Ed Boon, Dan Forden, and John Vogel.

Release Information

There isn't a firm release date yet, but the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is intended to be out sometime in late 2025. In addition, a special Kollector's Edition will ship on December 12, 2025.
