Samsung to Bring in Privacy-Enhancing 'Flex Magic Pixel' on Galaxy S26 Ultra
Samsung Electronics is expected to adopt a new display technology, dubbed the "Flex Magic Pixel," on the Galaxy S26 Ultra due for release next year. This feature is designed to generate a built-in privacy screen effect which might extend to foldable devices in the future.
What is Flex Magic Pixel
Flex Magic Pixel is Samsung Display's next-generation potential that uses AI to control individual OLED pixels and change the viewing angle of the screen. When the user accesses an application with personal information, the technology narrows the viewing angle, much like applying a physical privacy-protection film.
Advantages of the Technology:
- Integrated Privacy: No external privacy film is needed.
- Maintains Image Quality: Whereas conventional privacy films may affect brightness and illumination, Flex Magic Pixel is expected to deliver peak image quality while protecting user privacy.
The Enabling Technology CoE (Color Filter on Encapsulation)
Implementation of Flex Magic Pixel is said to have dependency on another key display innovation: CoE (Color Filter on Encapsulation) that is considered to be the first bar-type smartphone to have CoE.
CoE replaces the very polarizer of traditional OLED by a color filter; it is so marketed by Samsung Display as "LEAD". This has various advantages such as:
- Thinner Panels: Since the polarizer layer is eliminated, the entire display assembly is made thinner.
- Greater Light Goodness Transmittance: Less light be transmitted through the display in the absence of the polarizer hence lesser consumption of power.
- Immaculate Color Generation: Additional color filter for fine-tuning of color accuracy.
Samsung Display has utilized CoE technology in its foldable devices beginning with Galaxy Z Fold3 in 2021 and Galaxy Z Flip7 this year.
Interconnection of CoE and Flex Magic Pixel
According to industry experts, the implementation of Flex Magic Pixel cannot be made without CoE technology. Activation of Flex Magic Pixel viewing angle control may cause a slight loss of light, whereas light transmittance aided by CoE structure negates this lost amount, thereby allowing privacy operation without compromising brightness.
When It Will Be Available and Future Arrangement
Flex Magic Pixel will be first introduced on the top Ultra variant of the Galaxy S26 series. The S26 series is believed to be restructured into Pro, Air, and Ultra models, according to industry sources. There is a good chance that the Flex Magic Pixel will find its place on the subsequent Galaxy Z Fold and Flip devices.
