SanDisk Announces 256TB SSD for AI and Cloud Work
SanDisk just told us about their new solid-state drive that holds a huge 256TB. The big thing about this new drive is it uses their own UltraQLC tech, made to keep data safe and sound when you need to store a lot on it.
Main Technology and Design Features
This drive, made for big work jobs, has key parts like:
- Shape: U.2
- Boss Part: A strong multi-core controller to handle tasks.
- Memory: 2-terabyte BiCS8 3D QLC NAND memory bits.
One key tech is its Direct Write QLC tech. This way lets data go right onto the QLC cells, skipping the usual SLC buffer. Even if this might mean slower write times than drives with SLC buffers, it aims to make writing more stable with very big data. That helps a lot for tasks like AI work, where keeping data right is super important, even when power might go out.
Also, the SSD has Data Retention tech. SanDisk says this could cut down rewrite needs by up to 33%. This boosts how long the drive lasts and its ability to handle errors.
Target Audience and Release Date
SanDisk sees this drive as perfect for cloud services and companies working on AI tech.
They plan to start selling this 256TB SSD in early 2026. They haven't told us the price yet.
