Silent Hill F New Story Trailer and Release Date Set for September 25

Konami has offered a new glimpse of its incoming horror edition, Silent Hill F, with a story trailer that made its obvious debut during Gamescom's Opening Night Live. The new footage gives elaborate narrative exposition and confirms a launch date for September 25.

What New Trailer Reveals

This latest trailer then shifts from the gore and body horror seen in earlier trailers to delve deeper into the narrative. The trailer provides another glimpse into the set of 1960s Japan during the Showa era as our protagonist, Shimizu Hinako, wanders into the disconcerting fog. Maintaining the series' hopelessly cryptic atmosphere, the trailer provides some vague allusions to the past interspersing gruesome monster designs.

A Return to Roots in Japanese Horror

This new going about the game was very much a conscious decision. Series producer Motoi Okamoto explained that although he views Silent Hill as a mixture between Western horror and Japanese horror, "that the essence of Japanese horror was lost" as the series progressed. For this entry, he wanted to produce "a Silent Hill with 100% essence of Japanese-style horror."

The development team, featuring Ryukishi07 (creator of Higurashi When They Cry) and artist Kera (Spirit Hunter), helps bolster the commitment to genuine Japanese horror. While some previews have mentioned a heavier focus on an action-oriented combat style, the creative heads behind the project suggest that the horror aspects of the series come first.

Launch-Up Final Details

With a confirmed release date set for September 25th, just about time we await the Silent Hill F. Close to the Tokyo Game Show's opening, this Gamescom trailer might just be the last sizable reveal before the game comes, next month.
