Sony Confirms US Price Increase for PS5 and PS5 Pro by $50
Starting Tomorrow, Sony has increased the price of its PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro consoles sold in the United States. The price increment takes effect on August 21, 2025, and follows general increases in the prices of PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles in Canada, Europe, the UK, and various global regions.
New Pricing for PS5 Consoles
Every console model will experience a $50 price increase. Thus, the new price structure will include:
- PS5 (with disc drive): $549.99 (was $499.99)
- PS5 (without disc drive): $499.99 (was $449.99)
- PS5 Pro: $749.99 (was $699.99)
Why Was the Price Increased
Indeed, that was always going to happen after Sony chief financial officer Lin Tao mentioned in May that the company was considering an upward price adjustment in response to US tariffs. Isabelle Tomatis, vice-president of global marketing, stated in the announcement on PlayStation Blog that the reason for this price change has to do with navigating a challenging economic environment. This statement doesn't mention tariffs directly.
What Remains Untouched by the Price Change
Sony has confirmed that prices of official PlayStation accessories will "remain unchanged" for the moment. Sony said further that it has no other price changes to announce for other markets, suggesting that regions already affected do not foresee future adjustments in the near future.
