The Rogue Prince of Persia is now Available for Xbox, PC, and Game Pass

Ubisoft and Evil Empire have today launched their 2D action roguelike, The Rogue Prince of Persia, for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Game Pass. The game offers a unique genre of acrobatic combat with cyclical progression wherein players are challenged to save Persia from magicked Hun.

Primary Loop Fight, Die, Repeat

The prince is linked to why the capital has been invaded; at the end of the invasion, he finds himself reawakened inside a mysterious oasis by the magical power of a bola; death brings him back to the same oasis, where he has to fight again through the city besieged yet again. Success requires the lessons learned in every effort to save key figures from danger in order to discover through that one most true path to victory.

Mastering Acrobatic Combat

Fluid and acrobatic movement underpins the combat system of the game. The iconic wall-run is the central mechanic of this game and it allows players to avoid traps and outmaneuver enemies. This feature is complemented with vaults, pole swings, and dive attacks, creating a dynamic playground of combat.

Beginner Tips

Use Your Kick Creatively The kick is more than just a defensive move. It can interrupt attacks, push enemies into environmental hazards like spinning saws or traps, or even knock one foe into another to stun them both.

Combine Your Moves Don't rely on one ability. Chain together wall-runs, vaults, and dive attacks in order to create openings and maintain a state of flow. This rewards creative and intuitive play.

Experiment with Weapons and Medallions

A wide variety of weapons are available: spears, scythes, grappling hooks, and bows. Each weapon has a distinct attack speed, damage profile, and special attack, allowing players to adopt various fighting styles.

The type of build is determined based on the medallions equipped for each run. These items create tremendous synergies:

  • Basic Buffs Some medallions have basic boosts that increase damage dealt or other stat boosts.
  • Complex Synergies More advanced medallions create powerful combinations with your weapons and abilities. For example, a medallion that adds a burn chance to attacks is nice with a fast-hitting weapon. Also, one that causes nearby enemies to be stunned on critical hits is really great for a weapon that crits often.
  • Dramatic Effects Some medallions can change your run fundamentally; for instance, blocking all damage with reduced healing or reviving you upon death.

Experimenting with various combinations of weapons and medallions is the key to discovering powerful builds.

Explore to Progress

Running through the city gives you an opportunity to find new clues and new characters, unlocking new areas (biomes) and items, and furthering the main story. It is not possible to visit all areas in a single run, making your choices matter. If you get stuck, the in-game Mind Map provides a reminder of everything you have discovered, where you might need to go next.

Development and Release Notes

Developed by Evil Empire, the same studio that created Dead Cells, the game The Rogue Prince of Persia went through 15 months of early access on Steam. This entire experience has gone through a significant amount of development around player feedback to improve how game mechanics, progress, and presentation work within the game. This is an entirely new and self-contained universe; no knowledge of the series is needed here.

It is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) platforms, while plans are in place to launch it on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 later this year.
