World of Warcraft's Midnight Gamescom Reveals Details
At the Gamescom Opening Night Live event, Blizzard released a new cinematic for World of Warcraft's upcoming expansion, Midnight. The American trailer depicts the main conflict of the edition and it was reiterated by revealing some of the hottest new gameplay parts.
Defeating the Sunwell Conflict Central
Midnight's central antagonist is Xal'atath who is leading a void-based assault on the Sunwell, the fount of elves' magical energy. The cinematics depict an army of elves defending their sacred source of power from this new onslaught. It will comprise the middle chapter of the current trilogy of World of Warcraft expansions.
Major New Features of Gameplay with Midnight
Alongside the trailer, Blizzard made a public display with a long list of new content and features that will be coming to the expansion:
- Updated Quel'Thalas Zone: The new version of the classic elven motherland.
- New Zones: Another three brand new areas to explore Zul'Aman, Harandar, and The Voidstorm.
- New Instanced Content: Eight new dungeons and seven new delves.
- "Prey" Feature: An open-world activity focused on hunting down specific targets.
- Player Housing: It's happening.
- New Playable Race: Introducing the Haranir.
- New Demon Hunter Specialization: The "Devourer" specialization will be added to the Demon Hunter class.
Release Window and Pre-Order Information
Blizzard not announcing a specific release date for Midnight beyond the existing 2026 window. It was confirmed that patch 11.2 will be the last major update for the current expansion, The War Within, indicating Midnight will perhaps be released sometime early in 2026.
Pre-orders for the expansion have now gone live. Every pre-order will grant the player access to the new player housing feature ahead of everyone else. However, three days' early access to the expansion itself is exclusive to the $90 Epic Edition.
