IO Interactive Uncovers 36 Minutes of Gameplay on 007 First Light

It was during the dedicated Sony State of Play presentation that the studio showed a full 36 minutes of gameplay on 007: First Light, the first major look at the upcoming James Bond title from IO Interactive. The project moves beyond what has now become the Hitman formula known to gamers.

A Mission of Varied Gameplay

The extended demonstration followed a single mission, showcasing that First Light will feature multiple distinct gameplay styles. The presented sequence included:

  • Stealthy exploration through a heavily guarded mansion.
  • A fast-paced car chase sequence.
  • An explosive third-person shootout, with moments reminiscent of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.
  • An extended look at the mechanics of hand-to-hand combat.

Performance Issues Noted During Debut

The gameplay premiere did exhibit technical problems. Viewers saw distinct frame rate drops in the PS5 footage, with some scenes being described as "decidedly non-cinematic." Most in the audience agreed on that much: more polishing up before release would be needed for the videogame.

Confirmed Release Date and Platforms

IO Interactive, however, established a definitive release date for the game in spite of those performance issues. Crucial information for the launch includes:

  • Date of Release: March 27, 2026.
  • Platforms: Available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Switch 2 to be released in the future.

Moments after the conclusion of the State of Play presentation, pre-orders opened for 007: First Light.
