AMD Ryzen 9000X3D Can Achieve 1000 FPS With Recommended Settings

AMD made a bold performance claim regarding the Ryzen 9000X3D series of processors. According to the company, a gamer can achieve 1000 FPS in a number of popular eSports titles. To achieve such a high frame rate, an extremely powerful CPU is required, but those new chips have apparently all the innate strength required for specific use condition tweaking.

The Promise of 1000 FPS and Targeted Titles

The 1000 FPS achievement and targeted games are discussed in AMD's marketing infographic. According to the company, three of its CPUs can pull this off: The Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Ryzen 9 9950X3D, and the mobile Ryzen 9 9955HX3D. The 1000 FPS claim covers six different eSports titles:

  • Counter-Strike 2 (CS2)
  • Valorant
  • League of Legends
  • PUBG
  • Naraka: Bladepoint
  • One undisclosed title

Required Settings and Hardware Configurations

Achieving this level of performance isn't quite plug-and-play. AMD has outlined a specific combination of recommended settings and hardware used in achieving the 1000 FPS mark:

  • Operating System: Windows 11 (version 24H2)
  • System Settings: Must be deactivated Virtualization-based Security (VBS) and AMD Smart Access Memory (SAM).
  • Graphics: GeForce RTX 5080 or GeForce RTX 5090D
  • Memory System: 6000 at CL30-timing MT/s
  • Display Resolution: 1080p

Context and Practical Limitations

Of course, an impressive claim but much needs to be in place besides this. Even in AMD's data, it shows that using a Radeon RX 9070 XT netted only two out of the six to hit the 1000 FPS mark, showing the dependency on high-end NVIDIA GPUs for these results. These numbers are also an independent test for the veracity thereof.

Besides, the real usefulness of 1000 FPS is currently limited by display technology. The fastest monitors that have been made available or announced for gaming display their tops well below 1000 Hz- the very current high mark being HKC's upcoming 750Hz monitor. AMD did not state particular performance results for the mobile Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, where display refresh rates are an even greater limiting factor.
