Kojima Productions Unveils New Details on OD, PHYSINT, and Death Stranding Film

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary live stream at Tokyo Game Show 2025, Hideo Kojima offered updates on many of his upcoming projects. Included in the showcase was a look at the horror title OD published by Xbox, casting details for the espionage game in partnership with Sony, PHYSINT, and announcement of a new animated film, Death Stranding Mosquito.

OD 'Knock' A New Kind of Horror for Xbox

Kojima's partnership with Xbox, now formally titled 'Knock', has been pitched as an experience straddling the boundary between film and game. A new trailer featured the unsettling atmosphere and technological prowess of the project in a mind-bending three minutes.

  • Atmosphere and Tension: Tension through quiet moments, unsettling sounds of rain and knocking, and eerie visuals of candles reminiscent of baby pods from Death Stranding builds in the trailer starring Sophia Lillis.
  • MetaHuman Technology: The game features MetaHuman technology through Unreal Engine, which allows for creation of facial animations eerily close to visual realism, capturing every minute expression of fear undergoing stunning detail.
  • Personal Horror: As explained, the subtitle Knock is derived from Kojima's own fear of loud knocks, thus, personalizing the horror within an all-too-common disturbing phenomenon.
  • Role of Jordan Peele: It was established that director Jordan Peele is working within another section of the larger OD project, implying that OD may blossom into more than just a standalone release.

Xbox's Phil Spencer said about OD "bold, unique, and unmistakably from this studio." Well under development, it is now confirmed that Microsoft is supporting this title in different aspects apart from visuals; the story is somewhat hinted at being ten years after an unfathomable event, while the details remain deliberately kept vague.

Death Stranding Mosquito An Animated Film Project

For the Death Stranding universe, a new animated film was announced, called Death Stranding Mosquito. This project is separate from the previously announced live-action Death Stranding film.

  • Production: The film will be produced by ABC ANIMATION.
  • Screenplay: Aaron Guzikowski is writing the screenplay.
  • Director: Hiroshi Miyamoto directs.

PHYSINT Update on Casting and Development in Sony Partnership

Kojima Productions Reveals OD Knock Details PHYSINT Casting and Death Stranding Animated Film News

Kojima also shared details about PHYSINT, a tactical espionage action game that he is developing in partnership with Sony. The game is still in its conceptual phase, potentially five to six years away, but already some key art and casting information were revealed.

  • Key Art Tease: One new piece of key art, teasing a protagonist that some have noted appears to resemble actor Eddie Redmayne, though this is unconfirmed.
  • Confirmed Actresses: Three actresses have been reported as confirmed contributors to the project: Charlee Fraser (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Ma Dong-seok (Train to Busan), and Minami Hamabe (Godzilla Minus One).
  • Development Notes: Kojima mentioned that the recent SAG-AFTRA strike delayed the casting process. It was also confirmed that 3Lateral (the team behind MetaHuman) is developing new technology to accurately capture the likeness of Minami Hamabe for the game.
