Lenovo Legion Go 2 Handheld Confirmed with Some Major Upgrades

With the advent of the newly confirmed Legion Go 2, Lenovo will see its handheld gaming section updated. The second-generation device will boast significant hardware upgrades, including options for AMD's latest Ryzen Z2 series chips and a new OLED display, atop the foundation established by the original Legion Go.

AMD Ryzen Z2 Series Processors at the Heart

The processors constituting the core of Legion Go 2 shall be next-generation AMD processors for handhelds. The device will have options for configurations up to Ryzen Z2 Extreme.

  • Ryzen Z2 Extreme: This upper-end offering is based on the latest "Strix Point" APU architecture with 8 Zen 5 cores (16 threads) and RDNA 3.5 graphics with 16 Compute Units (CUs).
  • Ryzen Z2: The standard one shall be based on the "Hawk Point" APU architecture with 8 Zen 4 cores (16 threads) and RDNA 3 graphics with 12 CUs.

Display Enormously Updated to 144Hz OLED

The Legion Go 2 now comes with a brand new OLED display as opposed to an IPS panel used by its predecessor. The benefits of this change are enormous regarding screen quality. This new display will have specifications like:

  • 144Hz refresh rate.
  • Brightness & HDR - 500 nits peak brightness support with True Black 1000 HDR.

Other than the processors and display, the Legion Go 2 is receiving several other crucial upgrades:

  • Memory: Increased to 32 GB LPDDR5X-8000 RAM from 16 GB LPDDR5X-7500 in the original.
  • Storage: 1 TB of internal PCIe storage, expandable with a microSD slot for up to 2 TB.
  • Battery: A major boost to the capacity of 74Whr, up from 49.2Whr, plus a 65W AC adapter, so that it will be shipped.
  • Cooling: Require reworking of the cooling solution with a larger fan in order to promote maximum airflow and manual control.
  • Design: Retains versatility in the 3-in-1 design with detachable controllers for handheld, console, and FPS modes, along with a fingerprint reader.
  • Ports I/O: Two USB 4.0 Type-C ports (with DisplayPort 2.0 and Power Delivery 3.0 support), a 3.5mm audio jack, and a microSD card reader.

Lenovo has not communicated any official information on pricing or availability for the Legion Go 2 as yet. However, prices are expected to go for similar averages to the original Legion Go that was launched at about $700-$800. More information is expected in the coming days.
