End of Major OS Upgrades for Phone (1) Confirmed by Nothing
As for its next major software rollout, Nothing is teasing Nothing OS 4.0 while also announcing that its first-generation smartphone, the Phone (1), will not be receiving this upgrade. This conforms to the original commitment made by the company to provide three years of major software upgrades to the device.
What Awaits in Nothing OS 4.0
From teasers released by the brand around Nothing OS 4.0, the product is expected soon to be "Refined" and "Redefined" that could bring more hues to its distinctly unique interface. This update will also support newer devices installed with Android 16 such as Phone (3), which is yet to come.
Future of the Nothing Phone (1)
Although the Phone (1) has now reached the end of its major OS upgrades, it does not mark the end of its software support in totality. In a post on social media handle X, Nothing's founder and chief executive officer Carl Pei explained to first-generation flagship users of what to expect:
- No More Major OS Upgrades: The device will remain on its current version of Nothing OS.
- Continued Security Patches: The Phone (1) is scheduled to receive official security patch upgrades for one more year.
- A New Software "Program": Nothing announces a new but unannounced program meant for the users of Phone (1), focusing on the early adopters.
The company has not yet elaborated on what this new program will entail, but more details are expected to be outlined in the coming days. This suggests that while the path for OS updates is sealed, the story for the Nothing Phone (1) may not be completely over.
