Samsung Implements a Slider Smartphone Design That Adopts an Extendable Screen
In short, Samsung has patented a new handset design in the United States that's called a slider device incorporating a rollable display. The official sketches presented inside the filing have already ignited fan imagination to create concept models of what might be.
The Rollable Slider Mechanism
The patent describes a device, allegedly called the Galaxy Z Roll Mini that's compactly wide in its default closed-up state. The display matrix becomes longer and more usable when a part of an otherwise hidden display is drawn out and revealed by pressing the button attached to the casing.
Observations from Patent Sketches
Even though it did not include the technical specifications in the patent file, the official sketches had some clue regarding design. The device features:
- A uniformly thick case.
- A dual-camera type at the backside of the device.
- A noticeable chin that has a bottom bezel much thicker than the other frames in the market.
Future Prospects and Market Context
Notably, the patent filing has acknowledged similar concepts from other competitors, which include the Motorola Rollable and OPPO X. This means Samsung knows where things are going regarding developing the rollable technology. The past has also seen the company engaging in similar concepts, even though LG canceled its own rollable device in the end.
Whether this device will ever make it into production or it will merely remain as one more of Samsung's conceptual explorations remains to be seen.
