AMD Assured of Its Roadmap in the Light of NVIDIA-Intel Partnership Announcement
AMD's response with interview with CRN to the newly announced NVIDIA-Intel partnership was that it is confident enough in its product roadmap and ability to compete in the changing PC market. The NVIDIA-Intel partnership aims to build an x86 System-on-Chip (SoC) integrating RTX 50 GPU chiplets.
In the wake of this, AMD executive Jason Banta in his statements gave the impression that the company is committed to creating disruptive technologies.
"We’re very confident in our road map," Banta said. "You’ve seen ‘Strix Halo’ products that are really category-defining products. We want to continue to provide disruptive technology."
AMD's Position Regarding Mobile and AI
AMD's APUs have carved a niche in mobile computing due to their performance and power efficiency, with Strix Halo being a key APU feature in many compact devices like laptops, mini PCs, and handhelds.
With XDNA engines integrated into the architecture of their Ryzen AI platform, AMD has also made strides in terms of on-device AI capabilities. OEMs have commonly chosen AMD technologies to build product portfolios around their SoCs.
Competition in the PC Market
Intel and NVIDIA's association may eventually lead to a stiff competition, particularly in laptops in which NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang assumes that this new chip can be integrated into at least 150 million devices. On the contrary, AMD believes that it is prepared for the beginning of this.
"AMD is very confident that we're going to continue to be able to compete in that environment," Banta commented. "We've got great solutions going into notebook, desktop, handheld, other form factors, so we're very confident in the ability to compete there."
Future Line-ups of AMD APU
The roadmap of AMD's plans includes the launch of "Medusa Point" APUs next year and "Gator Range" planned for 2027, both to be in the next architecture-on-age architectures that will use Zen 6 CPU technology. No release date for the NVIDIA-Intel x86 SoC has yet been announced, but its eventual arrival is expected to turn things up a notch in the competition in the PC hardware arena.
