Apple Announces 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Chip on Launch with AI Features

Apple announces the new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the mighty M5 chip, enabled by PR and enhancement in AI features, graphics, and all-round system speed with battery life of up to 24 hours. The new model retains a starting price of $1,599.

M5 Chip-A Major Leap in AI and Graphics

M5 chip is the core of this upgrade that is made to enhance professional and everyday workflows. The salient improvements made in it are:

  • Enhanced AI Performance: A next GFX with a Neural Accelerator in every core allows up to 3.5x AI performance as compared to previous generations.
  • Higher-Performance Graphics: The M5 chips can give graphics performance with a speedup of 1.6x, greatly benefiting both professional apps and gaming.
  • Strong CPU/Neural Engine enhancements: A power-efficient 10-core CPU and enhanced 16-core Neural Engine that will bolster AI workload, from launching apps to running large language models (LLM) on-device.
  • Faster Storage: The new model comes with a fast SSD with configurable options going to 4 terabytes.

According to John Ternus, Apple Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, "This new M5 marks the leap into AI for the Mac and a truly seismic leap into graphics power."

Performance Gain across several Workloads

The M5 chip offers quite a handful of speed across some heavy workloads. Apple states that the new 14-inch MacBook Pro gives the following performance:
