Lexar Launches ARMOR Series Stainless Steel SD Cards Built for Durability

The ARMOR series leans heavily towards durability with stainless steel casings, rather than plastic, in place of ordinary memory cards. The new cards come as exceptionally durable storage media designed for use within extreme operating conditions.

Main Durability Features

The ARMOR series memory cards have been designed specifically to withstand physical strain and environmental threats. Lexar claims these cards are 37 times tougher than standard memory cards. Some essential specifications include:

  • stainless steel construction: to ensure its strength, the housing is made up of stainless steel;
  • IP68 water and dust protection: rated for dust ingress protection and up to 1.5 meters submergence in fresh water;
  • high drop resistance: designed to survive drops from heights of up to five meters.

Performance and Speed Specifications

There are two models of 1TB each in the new series, which can record up to 6K video, but both have differing write speeds.

  • ARMOR GOLD SDXC (1 TB): Provides read speeds of up to 280MB/s and write speeds of up to 205MB/s.
  • ARMOR SILVER PRO SDXC (1 TB): Provides read speeds of up to 280MB/s and write speeds of up to 160MB/s

Pricing and Availability

Details of Lexar ARMOR series availability in the United States:

  • Lexar ARMOR GOLD SDXC: Priced at $369; it will become available at the end of the third quarter of 2025.
  • Lexar ARMOR SILVER PRO SDXC: Priced at $364; it will become available during the fourth quarter of 2025.
