MSI Kickstarts Shipment of the EdgeXpert AI Mini PC Powered by NVIDIA Grace Blackwell Superchip
After NVIDIA's shipment of the DGX Spark platform, OEM partner MSI is gearing up to release its own version, the EdgeXpert AI micro PC. This micro-system is based on the new high-end superchip, the NVIDIA GB10 Grace Blackwell, set to produce enterprise-wide, full-stack AI performance in a miniature package.
Core Specs and Hardware
Launched earlier this year, the power-packed mini PC is now available in various configurations, after some availability delays. The entry level model, 99SUS 1TB, starts from $2,999, and the other models are priced higher for additional storage.
- Superchip: NVIDIA GB10 with Blackwell GPU capable of delivering 1 PetaFLOP of FP4 AI performance and a Grace CPU with 10 ARM Cortex-X925 and 10 ARM Cortex-A725 cores.
- Unified Memory: 128GB of LPDDR5X with 273GB/s bandwidth and accessible by both CPU and GPU through NVLink C2C interconnect.
- Storage: NVMe SSD options, with capacities of 1 TB, 4 TB, or 8 TB available.
- Form Factor: Case dimensions 151 mm x 151 mm x 52 mm (1.19L volume) and weight 1.2 kg.
- Cooling: Advanced dual-fan cooling system with ultra-wide fins and improved heat-pipe construction.
Hardware and Connectivity Ports
The EdgeXpert features a modern and robust selection of ports for high-speed data transfer and networking:
- 4x USB-C 3.2 ports with a throughput of 20 Gbps and Power Delivery (PD).
- 1x HDMI 2.1a video output.
- 1x 10 GbE network port.
- 2x NVIDIA ConnectX-7 ports for high-performance interconnects.
- Wireless connectivity via a Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 card.
Software Ecosystem and Scalable Performance
The system runs on NVIDIA DGX operating system, an Ubuntu-based OS with full access to the entire NVIDIA AI software ecosystem, including frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow and SDKs like CUDA and TensorRT, easily integrated with the majority of leading AI models like Llama 3.1.
For better performance, two EdgeXpert units can be attached to each other. ConnectX-7 ports exist on both EdgeXpert devices; in this configuration, the overall scaling doubles to an impressive 2 PetaFLOPs of AI performance, 256 GB of unified memory, and up to 8 TB of combined storage.
Pricing and Availability
Starting price of the MSI EdgeXpert AI minicomputer is $2,999 for the 1 TB base model. Initial stock on the MSI site seems to have been sold out already, however, the company should be seeing more as NVIDIA continues to send out DGX Spark kits to its partners. Anyone interested can sign up for "in stock" notifications via email on the MSI product page.
