Multiple Powertrain Options for Next Generation Corolla Concept Revealed by Toyota
Toyota for the first time gave a glimpse into the future of its globally best-selling car, the Corolla Concept, unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. This car is presented with considerable design renewal and it also sets the company up to offer the model in battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell versions.
New Exterior and Interior Design
A refreshed exterior has been introduced to this concept simple lines, fulfil the widely defined design philosophy. The visible key features include:
- Angular lights joined together by a continuous LED light bar spanning the gracefully contoured front end.
- Wraparound brake lights at the rear.
- Panoramic roof.
The interior of the Corolla Concept is designed in a minimalist yet futuristic style. Instead of a typical dashboard, the driver is surrounded by a series of curved, 'floating' panels. A small model of the car with a gearshift function is a very engaging feature of the centre console.
Broad Powertrain Strategy Electric, Hybrid, and Hydrogen
So many options such as battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, hybrid, and internal combustion engine are indicated by Toyota to be installed on the next-generation Corolla. The concept displayed at the show was said to have a BEV mode due to the presence of the charging port.
On the other hand, some recent articles confirm that Toyota is actively working on a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle version. Mitsumasa Yamagata, the President of the Toyota Hydrogen Factory, stated,
"My team is now working on engineering a hydrogen-based powertrain for the Corolla. The smaller cell size is meant to integrate into the concept's platform without major redesign."
Future Production
When exactly a production version of the Corolla Concept will appear on the market or just how much of the concept design will be considered for the final model remains to be determined.
