ASUS Launches Its First Gaming Monitors with LG RGB Tandem OLED Panels
ASUS has officially launched its first gaming display with LG's RGB Tandem OLED technology. This new panel technology relies on four emission layers and enables the monitors to reach an extended level of brightness and clarity in SDR and HDR mode.
ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W The Fastest in the Double Mode
The flagship ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W model is touted to be the fastest available in the market. The dual mode configuration is, however, key to its uniqueness:
- Mode 1: 540Hz refresh rate at 1440p resolution.
- Mode 2: 720Hz refresh rate at 720p resolution.
This model was also introduced in China under the name "ROG Super Kill 27 Pro." While super fast, the 720Hz mode supports only 720p.
ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG Mid-Range Option
ASUS also launched the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG mid-range monitor, which shares the LG Tandem OLED panel with the XBook. It aims at a larger audience with a 280Hz refresh rate at 1440p resolution, which is good for most competitive gaming. There are quite a few downgrades to this monitor in comparison to the flagship especially when it comes to connectivity.
Common Display Specifications
Both monitors sport several common key display specifications:
- Surface: Glossy
- Color Gamut: 99.5% DCI-P3 and 135% sRGB
- Color Accuracy: Delta E < 2 for accurate color representation
- Brightness: Peak HDR brightness is specified at 1500 nits.
Although the official SDR brightness figure is not mentioned, the source material could suggest between 300-350 nits due to the new panel technology.
Differences in Connectivity
The main contrasting aspect of each model is the port selection. The flagship ROG Swift PG27AQWP-W comes fitted with modern HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 ports, while its mid-range counterpart, the ROG Strix XG27AQWMG, utilizes DisplayPort 1.4. Both models feature USB Type-A ports for peripherals.
Pricing Information
ASUS has not officially disclosed the prices for these models; however, citing a previous report, the flagship ROG Swift PG27AQWP-W should cost around $1100.
