GMKtec Mini-PC M8 Now Worldwide, OCuLink and USB4 Connections Back the Regional Stars
The mini-PC M8 by GMKtec has been launched on the global stage after a launch in China. With high-speed connectivity options, including OCuLink and USB4 with eGPU support, the AMD Ryzen APU powers the M8. It is now offered for a starting price of $329.99.
Design and Connectivity: The Same Old Story
From a distance, the GMKtec M8 seems to be a mere look-alike of the EVO-X1 model of the same company and retains all the same features of the floating metal frame. Amongst its modern port connectivity with emphasis on eGPU support is what truly gives it credit. The frontal aspect of the device has:
- The OCuLink port
- USB4 port
- Two USB 3.2 Type-A ports
- A 3.5 mm audio jack
- A CMOS reset button
- A power button
Processor and Performance: A Cheap APU
The main difference between the M8 and its costlier counterpart is the processor. The M8 has supported the AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 6650H, a 6nm APU with six Zen 3+ cores and integrated Radeon 660M iGPU. The CPU is capable of completing general tasks and performing decently; however, compared to the EVO-X1's Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, it gets crushed in both CPU-intensive benchmarking and gaming.
Pricing and Global Availability
GMKtec prices the M8 according to the hardware configuration. The entry version starts at $329.99, featuring 16 GB RAM with 512 GB SSD. That price is supposedly part of an introductory discount of $150. A 1 TB version is available for just $30 more than the base model. The mini-PC can be ordered from all corners of the Earth through the official GMKtec website.
