GMKtec Launches M8 Mini PC in China with Ryzen 5 Pro and OCuLink

The company GMKtec has launched an economically priced mini PC in China, GMK M8. The device comes with an AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 6650H processor and notably has an OCuLink port for connecting an external GPU. This M8 has a starting price of CNY 1,999, approximately $299.

Performance and Graphics

The GMK M8 processor is an AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 6650H, a Rembrandt processor with six Zen 3+ cores. It has enough power to do everyday computing tasks. However, the integrated Radeon 660M GPU does not have sufficient muscle to run modern AAA titles smoothly at 1080p, not even on the lowest settings.

Connectivity and eGPU Expansion

Perhaps the most important highlight of the GMK M8 is an OCuLink port so that users can connect an external GPU (eGPU) for large performance gains in gaming. The mini PC also has a USB4 port providing an alternative for eGPU connectivity and use with high-speed accessories. The system is powered using this USB4 Type-C port.

A complete list of ports:

  • 1x OCuLink
  • 1x USB4
  • 3x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
  • 1x USB 2.0 Type-A
  • 2x 2.5G Ethernet
  • 1x DisplayPort
  • 1x HDMI
  • 1x 3.5 mm audio jack

Wireless connectivity features WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. The combination of USB4, DisplayPort, and HDMI ports allows triple display support.

Memory and Storage

The GMK M8 is installed with 16 GB of LPDDR5 memory running at 6,400 MT/s. However, this RAM is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be upgraded. On the storage side, the device offers two PCIe 3.0 slots, with support for up to 16 TB in total.

Pricing and Availability in China

As of now, the GMK M8 is available in China in two configurations:

  • 512 GB SSD: CNY 1,999 (approx. $299)
  • 1 TB SSD: CNY 2,299 (approx. $349)

While a global launch is yet to be confirmed, GMKtec usually releases its products onto international markets after a China debut.
