Lexar Launches AI Storage Core Designed Specifically for Large Language Models
Lexar has unveiled its AI Storage Core, an innovative solid-state-storage device engineered to meet the large demands of many large language models (LLMs). Featuring enormous size and a compact form factor, this new high-capacity storage solution provides highly rugged durability, making it appropriate for specialized applications beyond data centers.
Compactly Handling Much Weight
The AI Storage Core, according to Lexar, is destined for M.2 integration. At just over the size of a standard SD memory card in both dimensions, the obvious part of that footprint is devoted to storage space-the attainable limit reaches up to 4 TB. The manufacturer points out that this drive has been optimized for modern AI workloads, such as engaging AI image generators and LLMs.
All-Weather Durability for Numerous Environments
Chief among features in the AI Storage Core are rugged protections against environmental conditions. Built into this drive:
- Water and dust exposure.
- Physical impacts.
- Electromagnetic radiation.
- Extreme temperature of -40°C to +85°C.
Such durability requirements permit the uses of this device in demanding areas like robotics and modern automotive systems while being limited to server rooms that use conditioned air.
Hot-Swap Functionality and Availability
The AI Storage Core also provides hot-swappable support for those scenarios that require the need to replace the drives quickly without the need of turning off the system. All the same, Lexar was yet to communicate any specific details pertaining to costs, official sales start date, or detailed technical specifications.
