Minisforum Launches MS-R1, First ARM Mini PC with a PCIe 4.0 Slot
Minisforum has recently revealed the specifications of its first ARM architecture-based mini-PC, the MS-R1. This new device has been fitted out with a 12-core heterogeneous ARM processor and has been designed as one of the very limited ARM mini PCs, where PCIe 4.0 x16 expansion slot is included for discrete graphics cards.
Processor and Performance
The MS-R1 is built by the CIXIN P1 SoC, a homegrown Chinese processor which is a 6nm built processor. This Chinese-made processor takes up to 12 cores of CPU and comprises both performance ARM Cortex-A720 Cora and energy-efficient Cortex-A520 core, clocked between 1.8 GHz and 2.6 GHz. It also integrated Immortalis-G710 MC10 GPU and dedicated NPU, providing up to 30 TOPS of AI performance.
Chassis, Memory, and Storage
The same compact chassis is used for the device's MS-01 model, which measures 196 x 189 x 48 mm. Memory and storage options include:
- Memory options: 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of LPDDR5 at 5500 MT/s, with ECC options available.
- Storage options: No SSD, 512 GB, or 1 TB PCIe SSD.
Expansion and Connectivity
There is a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot wired for x8 for users to install a discrete GPU, and this, for an ARM-based desktop, is arguably the most rare asset. In addition to that, this mini PC allows workstation level connectivity.

Operating System and Target Audience
The MS-R1 is configured to an operating system which is proprietary, based on Linux, debranded on Debian 12; users can install Debian 12 or 13 standard. Moreover, this adds appeal to also those developers and power users of Linux, even those interested to test on the ARM platform.

Minisforum has not made any announcement regarding the price or availability date related to the MS-R1.
