MSI Unveiled First B840 'Project Zero' Motherboard with Connectors on the Back

MSI has quietly launched the PRO B840M-P EVO WIFI6E PZ, a new motherboard that has moved most of the power and data connectors to the back of the board. Part of the "Project Zero" and "EVO" lines of the company, this motherboard is the first B840 chipset motherboard to adopt this design intended to help with cable management and tidy up PC builds.

Essential Features of the B840M-P EVO WIFI6E PZ

The board comes in silver-white color and has some upgrades compared to the standard Pro B840M-P apart from the added PCIe slots, storage ports, and wider onboard heatsinks. The core specifications include:

  • Chipset & Socket: B840 supporting up to AMD Ryzen AM5 processors.
  • Memory Support: Up to 256GB capacity with speed grades as high as 8000 MT/s.
  • Storage: PCIe 4.0 M.2 drives.
  • Networking: 2.5G LAN and WiFi 6E.
  • Power Delivery: A 7+2+1 power phase VRM design.
  • Build Features: Incorporates the EZ features of MSI for much easier GPU and M.2 installation.

The 'Project Zero' Leg-Up What Moved to the Back

The major improvement is that many of the front-reachable connectors are now routed to the rear of the motherboard. In a compatible case, such moving makes routing the bulk of cables into the space behind the motherboard tray. The relocated connectors include:

  • 8-pin EPS CPU power connector
  • 24-pin ATX main power connector
  • Front USB 3.0 header
  • Front USB Type-C header
  • SATA ports
  • Fan and RGB/ARGB headers

Future-Proof with a 64MB BIOS

This is also the first B840 motherboard to ship with a BIOS chip of 64MB. The larger capacity guarantees support for future AMD Zen 6 CPUs, which are scheduled for launch early in 2027. Some sources also report that a 32MB BIOS would support Zen 6, but the 64MB chip guarantees full compatibility.

Pricing and Availability

MSI has not disclosed the official price of the PRO B840M-P EVO WIFI6E PZ motherboard or the date for retail availability.
