Nintendo Acquires Bandai Namco Studios Singapore to Strengthen Development

Nintendo Co., Ltd. has entered into a definitive agreement with Bandai Namco Studios Inc. to acquire its subsidiary, Bandai Namco Studios Singapore Pte. Ltd. (BNSS). This strategic acquisition is designed to enhance Nintendo's internal development structure. Following the transfer of shares, the Singapore-based entity will be renamed Nintendo Studios Singapore Pte. Ltd.

Strategic Reasoning Behind the Acquisition

The decision arises from a successful existing relationship between the two companies. BNSS was originally established as the overseas base for the Bandai Namco Group and has gained a strong reputation for producing high-quality in-game art assets.

It is worth mentioning that the studio has previously contributed to some of the big titles of Nintendo, including the popular Splatoon series. In light of this history and the studio's specialized expertise, Nintendo wishes to secure this talent to enhance its own development group.

Share Transfer Details

The acquisition is structured in two phases so that the transfer can be smoothly implemented

  • Initial Transfer Nintendo aims for 80% of BNSS shares to be acquired on April 1, 2026, subject to the satisfaction of customary closing conditions.
  • Final Transfer The acquisition of the remaining shares would happen after a time interval set so that the operation of the subsidiary is stabilized under new management.

Overview of New Subsidiary

Once the acquisition is complete, the studio will be renamed Nintendo Studios Singapore Pte. Ltd. It will remain located at Infinite Studios in Singapore, developing games as well as in-game art assets.

Nintendo commented that the acquisition would have little impact on the results for the current fiscal year.
