Unitree G1 Humanoid Robot: Tows 1.4 Holes of Vehicle
The small humanoid robot, named Unitree G1, was shown by scientists from Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence pulling a 1,400-kg vehicle. The demonstration is more of a show of the robot's sophisticated control systems than of its raw power.
A Demonstration of Balance, Not Just Strength
Unitree G1 weighs 35 kilograms and stands only 132 centimeters tall. The footage highlights its exceptional sense of balance and movement control. The prototype manages continuously shifting leg and body posture to maintain stability even on the slippery floor surface while towing a mass object much larger than itself.
According to its developers, this high level of dynamic balance makes the G1 a viable candidate for working alongside people in environments like warehouses or hospitals.
Future Applications and Hurdles
Unitree is one of several companies seeking mass production of humanoid robots. While the experiment has made progress in locomotion and balance, engineers readily admit that there remain challenges to overcome. The key problems still unsolved are improving the coordination of hand movements and fine motor skills of the robot.
