Xbox Full Screen Experience Arrives for Windows Handhelds
Microsoft has begun rolling out the Xbox Full Screen Experience (FSE), a mode designed for portable gaming devices operating on Windows. The feature was tested on hardwares like the ROG Ally and MSI Claw, and is now being made available on other similar handhelds. It is expected that the FSE will come to laptops and desktop PCs at a later time.
What is Xbox Full-Screen Experience?
The essence of Xbox FSE is to launch the Xbox app in an exclusive full-screen environment, free of any interference from the regular Windows desktop or any background components. This helps to retain the console-like feel on handhelds.
Performance Features
This mode provides great performance improvements by shutting down File Explorer and related system processes.
- Saves System Resources: It frees approximately around 2 GB of RAM.
- Better Game Stability: With more resources available, games will run more stably.
- Optimized UI: User interface for gamepad control on smaller screens, with a Game Bar for easy game switching and task managing for portable devices.
- Unified Library: It allows players to access their games from Microsoft Store, Steam, Battle.net, and other launchers from a single app.
How to Enable Xbox FSE
Here is how to turn on the new mode on a compatible device:
- Open Settings.
- Go to "Games".
- Select "Full-Screen Mode".
- Set Xbox as Home App.
Current and Future Availability
The Xbox Full-Screen Experience is available on portable gaming devices that have the right specifications running Windows. Desktop and laptop PCs will be next in line for the FSE via an update in the future.
