AMD Reportedly Planning AM5 Support for Zen 7 Architecture
According to sources, AMD is planning support for the AM5 platform within the confines of the next Zen 7 microarchitecture. The announcement comes from an insider who is alleged to be called Moore's Law Is Dead. Such a report implies that there will not be a move to a fresh AM6 foundation until the end of this decade or the start of the next.
Zen 7 to even include AM5
The juicy tidbit from the leak is that users currently running AM5 will be eligible to upgrade their CPU without needing a new motherboard to Zen 7 processors, thereby extending the life of the AM5 socket and deferring a complete platform overhaul for consumers.
Future AM6 Platform Zen 8 and Zen 9
In addition, the report featured some extremely early information on AMD's long-term roadmap, where architectures Zen 8 and Zen 9 were thought to migrate to a whole new AM6 socket.
- The Zen 8 architecture is said to be codenamed "Penelope."
- The Zen 9 architecture is said to be codenamed "Nemesis."
The new AM6 platform will likely be the one that offers support for other next-generation technologies, like the DDR6 memory and the PCIe 6.0 interface, but the source claims that these features haven't been completely guaranteed to see the light of day.
Long-Term Prospective
This was from a very early leak concerning products that will not probably be seen until events start to happen at or near the beginning of the 2030s. It was further noted that AMD will continue pursuing its evolution under the "Zen" brand.
