Player Base Grows for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in Wake of New Movie

The 2023 title, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, has seen an exponential surge in player numbers. This is due not only to the new blockbuster, Avatar: Fire and Ash, but also to the recently launched story expansion for the game itself.

Two Aspects Causing Players to Come Back

There are two key events that attracted renewed interest to this single-player, open-world action title.

  1. Release of the "Fire and Ash" Movie
The game got a large swing in numbers after the premiere of the sci-fi film Avatar: Fire and Ash. The concurrent player count registered by SteamDB on December 28th was 12,496. Frontiers of Pandora is quite story-focused and already earns comparisons to titles such as Far Cry 3 because it is more action-oriented than story-driven.
  2. "From The Ashes" Expansion Story DLC
Beside "from The Ashes" storyline DLC relased on December 5, contributed a number of players into the growing player counts. The extension serves as the narrative bridge between the main game's campaign and the events happening therein as well as the happenings after the third movie in the trilogy. One main feature that was brought in this DLC is a third-person gameplay perspective.

Ubisoft's Avatar Legacy

Frontiers of Pandora is not the first of its games to be based on the James Cameron movies. Ubisoft had already developed its first game, Avatar: The Game, in 2009. That game served as an official prequel to the first film in the series.
