CD Projekt Sold GOG to the Co-Founder to Concentrate on Game Development

CD Projekt has sold the GOG.com digital distribution platform. The company declared on December 29 that the act puts it in a position to pay full attention to developing video games. Michał Kiciński, one of the co-founders of both CD Projekt and GOG, acquired it.

The Deal's Particulars

The agreement amounted to PLN 91 million, which is close to 25 million dollars. The announcement made it clear that separation was amicable and that GOG was solvent. GOG, which was established in 2008, was being managed by CD Projekt hindering the firm's aim of developing games.

What the Sale Means to GOG Users

GOG Customers will find it very easy during the transition. There will be no alteration in the core user experience and principles of the platform.

  • Library Access: Users will keep complete access to their digital libraries and offline installers.
  • DRM-Free Philosophy: It is also part of GOG's identity to continue with offering DRM-free games.
  • CD Projekt Games: Titles from CD Projekt RED will still be found on GOG and the future releases from the studio will also be available on the platform.
  • GOG GALAXY: The GOG GALAXY client is an optional tool.
  • Community Funding: All funds from the GOG Patron and Preservation Program will stay with GOG to serve its mission.

GOG's Future Renewed Focus on Preservation and Independence

GOG intends to redouble its founding vision with this new chapter- keeping all those classic games alive and accessible. As Michał Kiciński put it, "GOG means freedom, independence and real control." The independence of the platform is viewed positively for its core business, which is to rescue legacy games.

GOG will pursue even more aggressive preservation efforts and initiatives to prevent classic games from becoming unplayable, recognition of significant modern games, and support for new titles with a retro spirit, ethical and non-predatory independent development platform and create a strong voice for the community through new initiatives coming in 2026.
