Huawei's Plan to Launch Ascend 950 AI Chip Next Year in Korea
Huawei's latest artificial intelligence chip, now called "Ascend 950," will be launched next year at the Korean market. This was reported on Thursday by Huawei Korea Chief Executive Officer Balian Wang during the holding of the "Huawei Day 2025" press conference which took place in Seoul.
The company will launch AI computing cards along with the related AI data center solutions. Wang said, "We want to give the Korean companies an alternative option aside from Nvidia."
Sales Strategy and End-to-End Solutions
Huawei's marketing strategy will be different from those of its competitors. "Unlike Nvidia, we plan to sell chips in cluster rather than selling them singularly," Wang said. "Huawei's is not just bringing AI cards and AI servers but rather accelerating industrial applications."
In this way, the company will offer an end-to-end (E2E) solution that goes beyond infrastructure hardware such as networks and storage and includes everything needed in terms of software. This strategy may allow Huawei to directly integrate and service the product for its clients, thus not depending on supply and sales partners. Huawei Korea is said to have started some discussions with the potential suppliers.
Harmony OS Ecosystem and Smartphone Plans
In addition to launching an AI chip, Huawei Korea will also be planning to strengthen the open-source operating system, Harmony, in the following year with respect to its ecosystem. Wang described Harmony as a workable OS for an open-source organization. It should actually cater to all smart devices, not just specific to smartphones.
He also made it clear that the company would not be releasing any of its smartphones in Korea next year.
