HUAWEI Mate 80 51 Hours under Water Proves Extreme Durability
The accident submerged the Mate 80 of HUAWEI for about two days and became a showcase to examine the phone's reliability. Submerging in a lake, the owner's flagship phone was recovered over two days later, and to everyone's surprise, the phone was working well.
Some Explanation of the Incident
The accident occurred on December 6 in the Yunnan Province of China. While fishing in Yangzonghai Lake, the owner accidentally caused his new Mate 80 to drop into the water to a depth of around 3.4 meters. Since the phone could not be recovered straight away, the owner returned after two days to retrieve it with the help of a fish finder.
Status of the Phone on Retrieval
Once taken out, the HUAWEI Mate 80 worked perfectly after coming out of the lake. According to the owner, there was no visible damage to the case and the battery had about 11% charge left. To his disbelief, he never thought that a fully working smartphone would be retrieved.
Water-resistance Ratings Go Up the Wall
Water-resistance ratings for the HUAWEI Mate 80 follow IP68 standards for dust and water resistance. According to HUAWEI, its own tests for this rating consist of submerging it in fresh water up to 6 meters deep for half-hour duration. The phone's survival in a real-life scenario for 51 hours was thus put to commendable proof of durability.
