Enthusiast Upgrades iPhone 16 Pro Max with a Larger Battery
Tech enthusiast DirectorFeng successfully carried out the machine modification of the iPhone 16 Pro Max to facilitate the installation of a battery much larger in capacity. His video shows the entire procedure, from removal of the original battery to installation of the third-party battery with larger capacity.
Some Details of the Battery Upgrade
This operation replaced the standard battery of 4685 mAh with a 5142 mAh battery from SEFU. Important facts about the upgrade include the following:
- Greater Capacity: The new battery has 9.76% greater capacity than the stock version.
- Very Much Greater Capacity: It is, in fact, also greater than the 5088 mAh battery of the eSIM-only model of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
- It Fit Just Fine: The dimensions and weight of the replacement battery were nearly the same, and it did fit into the smartphone's chassis quite fine.
Post-Installation Results
The phone was subjected to multiple charge/discharge cycles. The system's battery health reading for the new battery showed 100%; quite a leap from the 92% health reading on the battery it replaced.
Long-Term Reliability and Official Trends
It is not known yet how this modification will perform and how reliable it will be into the long term, although the author states he intends to do further assessments with time. This enthusiast project comes at a time when Apple too is reportedly entering the larger battery territory for its devices, with suggestions that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will get a bigger battery than its immediate predecessor.
