Jolla Announces Confirmed Hardware for Upcoming Smartphone

Jolla is announcing new hardware specifications for the upcoming phone. Jolla updates the information about the following smartphone through its crowdfunding monthly report. The details show the correct processor model, camera system components, and battery technology for the phone.

The company also mentioned that over 6,000 units were pre-ordered, and if the campaign source can get 10,000 pre-orders by January 4th, Jolla would commence development on replaceable active panels for the phone.

Confirmed Hardware Details

Many primary components for the new Jolla Phone have been officially specified.

Processor and Cameras

The device will be powered by a yet-to-be-announced MediaTek Dimensity 7000 series processor. The entire camera system will be made of Sony sensors, as follows:

  • Main Camera: Sony IMX766 (focusing)
  • Ultra-Wide Camera: Sony IMX214 (focusing)
  • Front Camera: Sony IMX616

Memory, Storage, and Connectivity

For the 12/256 GB model, the company will be using LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage from top Korean manufacturers. The phone will also have an independent microSD card slot on its own from the SIM card tray. Supported radio frequency bands are:

  • LTE FDD: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28AB, 66
  • LTE TDD: 34, 38, 39, 40, 41
  • 5G NR: n1, n2, n3,n5, n7, n8, n12, n20, n26, n28,n38, n40, n41, n66, n77, n78

Battery and Design Update

Jolla declares that a silicon-carbon battery will be used in the phone in question. This technology is likely to shave off 1 to 2 mm of thickness from the originally specified 9 mm for the device. The intended battery capacity is 5500 mAh.

Software Development

To enhance software assistance, Jolla has made its OS components open-source. This will allow the community to collaborate on the development of a high-quality camera application for the newly announced Sony hardware.
