Report: Lenovo Plans to Launch Legion Go 2 Console for SteamOS
In accordance with recent reports from windowslatest, Lenovo may soon introduce an up-and-coming particular build of the Legion Go 2 handheld console. This unit will run SteamOS and will reportedly sport the same high-powered hardware configuration as its Windows version.
Identical Hardware Specifications
The only difference between the two models of Legion Go 2s would be the OS. However, the hardware is expected to be identical across both versions, featuring high-performance components:
- Display: 8.8 inches OLED
- Processor: AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme
- RAM: Up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X
- Storage: Up to a 2 TB PCIe SSD
Benefits of SteamOS
Some advantages specific to a gaming handheld apply to the SteamOS variant: compared to Windows 11, SteamOS has the following:
- Lower Resource Usage: The OS runs lighter and makes a good portion of system capacity free for games.
- Quick Sleep Mode: Passes games from sleep to awake last-used status without losing progress.
- Game-Centric Interface: Menus based around a library of game covers instead of little app icons.
- Built-in Gameplay Tools: Native support for the game overlay and gameplay recording not needing third-party software.
Expected Announcement and Release Date
The Lenovo Legion Go 2's official price and release date will be made known sometime during CES 2026 event, which will take place on January 6-9, which would include the SteamOS version.
