The FIFA Football Game is to be launched, exclusive to Netflix, in 2026.
International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) announced collaborations with Netflix and game developer Delphi Interactive for a new FIFA-branded football game. The game is targeted for launch in summer 2026, right before the FIFA World Cup.
An Era of New Beginnings for the FIFA License
FIFA is moving away from the long-standing partnership it had formed with Electronic Arts, which is now behind the EA Sports FC series. This puts FIFA in a new paradigm for game style: developed by Delphi Interactive with an exclusive launch on the Netflix Games platform.
Initiating the new dawn of digital football, the agreement between FIFA and Netflix will be a crucial aspect of FIFA's efforts at innovation in the gaming space, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has stated.
Platform and Accessibility
The new FIFA game won't be a traditional console game but will only be released on a selected platform:
- Platforms: Phones and TVs.
- Accessibility: The game will be only available at no extra cost to Netflix subscribers.
- Controls: The phone will act as a controller for users playing on a TV.
Gameplay and Ambitions
Though detailed gameplay remains scant, the developers did indicate their core vision. The game will offer single-player and multiplayer experiences, and the aim is to create a title that is, in the words of Gianni Infantino, "fast to learn, thrilling to master, and built for anyone to jump in."
Alain Tascan, President of Games at Netflix said, "We want to bring football back to its roots with something everyone can play with just the touch of a button"; while Delphi Interactive wants to "makes the FIFA game the most fun, approachable, and global football game ever to be created".
