NVIDIA Driver 591.44 Update at Your Own Risk

The driver from NVIDIA operating within the number range 591.44 was recently introduced into the market. Like most gamers, especially those with the NVIDIA RTX 50 series, they hoped the new driver version would help combat some stability issues with games such as Battlefield 6, but it turned out the other way round. While users rant about several issues accompanying this new software on the official NVIDIA forums, they label it as one of the worst updates to stumble discussion in a good while, underscoring the undefined but effective game features and system crashes effects and serious conflicts with ASUS hardware.

Battlefield 6 and RTX 50 Series Instability

Among the most common reason why several users decided to update before other criteria was the crash and stuttering fixes released for Battlefield 6. But reports indicate that in actuality, version 591.44 created greater problems.

  • Broken DLSS Owners of RTX 5090 and 4090 cards are reporting that DLSS is completely broken in Battlefield 6, causing severe visual artifacts. Many are forced to switch to AMD's FSR just to make the game playable.
  • Black Screens and Reboots For RTX 5080 and 5090 users, the driver is causing black screens and rebooting randomly with the error code Bug Check 133 being detected.

The ASUS Software 'Massacre'

If your PC is equipped with an ASUS motherboard or an ASUS TUF/ROG Strix GPU, this driver appears to be a big incompatibility disaster. Users report essential control programs not working at all

  • Armoury Crate Failure The software fails to recognize the GPU. This means users cannot control RGB lighting, leaving their expensive hardware stuck on default modes.
  • GPU Tweak III It is reported that after the update, the utility for overclocking and fan control refuses to open.

Counter strike 2 Visual Glitches

Competitive shooters have been hit badly too. Players of Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) reported that there are issues in the update affecting the color scheme of the game and the clarity of its text.

Colors washed out or gray, and the text went blurry and distorted. Players who stretch their resolution (playing on non-native resolutions) really experience a horrible time finding their enemies in ranked matches. Some users noted that while the text lines got fixed, the color palette became unplayable.

What to do if you have Any Trouble

If you haven't updated yet, don't install Driver 591.44; they're much safer still on the older, proven more stable versions, like latest hotfix driver, 581.80 or 581.42 for the RTX 40 and 50 series.

If you already updated with these issues, here is the fix

  • Download DDU Get the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) tool.
  • Enter Safe Mode Boot your Windows into Safe Mode to ensure a clean removal.
  • Wipe the Driver Now, using DDU, totally uninstall the current NVIDIA driver.
  • Rollback Install a "clean" version of an older driver (581.80 or 581.42). While quite a few ASUS users have been able to get their systems working again by uninstalling all ASUS software from their systems and reinstalling it, the full driver rollback is a temporary best answer for most users right now.
