Timo Tjahjanto to Direct Sleeping Dogs Movie Adaptation
The director for the movie adaptation of the video game Sleeping Dogs has been set. The project will be helmed by Timo Tjahjanto, known for "Nobody 2," according to the film's leading man and producer Simu Liu.
Project Status and History
For almost a decade, the project has been on and off in discussions and development. It had previously been canceled, but the project endured. Reportedly, an action film draft was completed in October; however, a release date has not yet been set.
A Twisted Development Path
The long development time mirrors the tumultuous history surrounding the video game itself. Released in 2012, the video game was initially being developed as the third entry into the True Crime series under the title "True Crime: Hong Kong." After publisher Activision canceled the project, developer United Front Games rejoined forces with Square Enix to finish and release the game as Sleeping Dogs.
