Major leadership turnover occurs again with the Splinter Cell remake. David Grivel, originally the game director for Splinter Cell before leaving in 2022, has now officially rejoined Ubisoft Toronto to lead the project once again. This happens as the studio continues to spearhead the much-awaited title that is already five years into development.

Back on the Team

Grivel would announce his return to the seat he vacated three years ago while also making it known that he is very much excited about the project. He confirmed, in his statement, that he is indeed reclaiming the position of game director under which he described the group around Ubisoft Toronto as a special team engaged in a special project

His return comes after a tumultuous time for the project staffing, including the loss of backup during his absence. Grivel is now set to see the whole of production through to completion.

A Journey Across Studios

After leaving Ubisoft for the first time in 2022, Grivel spent time with a couple of other major studios, including the following for his path

  • Work on Battlefield 6 at the now-defunct Ridgeline Games.
  • Time at Worlds Untold, a studio funded by NetEase, which, incidentally, was just recently closed.

After those industry gambles, Grivel returns to Ubisoft to see that Splinter Cell remake back on course.
