The Flood of Unplayed Games on Steam in 2025
Data indicates 19,000 games released on Steam by the year 2025.
The issue of low-quality or junk titles flooding the Steam store continued in 2025, with data showing significant volumes of releases that hardly saw any player engagement. The extensive catalog of the platform is being bolstered with games that remain more or less unplayed.
2025 Steam Releases in Perspective
Statistics from the database SteamDB paint a dire picture. In 2025, 19,200 games were released on Valve's platform, with the vast majority of these titles being totally ignored by the user base. The data suggest:
- More than 15,000 of the new titles received fewer than 50 user reviews.
- The largest segment of these games was reviewed by only one to nine players.
Thus, the Steam graveyard problem seems to continue, the complete opposite of the popularity its where Steam mostly resembles an extensive list of products rarely used. The store keeps adding to this catalogue of unplayed titles.
From Valve's viewpoint, the model is still profitable: The developers pay a one-hundred-dollar fee for publishing the project, and consequently, it becomes a very lucrative income stream, whether or not the game is successful.
